학부생들을 위한 WRT 이수 요건

 

영작문 수업 (2 과목): WRT101, WRT102

 

문어체 형태의 영어로 효과적으로 소통할 수 있는 능력은 대학교 뿐 아닌 사회에서의 성공에 필요한 필수적인 요소입니다. 학생들은 1) WRT 101 Introductory Writing Workshop 을 통과, 2) WRT 102 Intermediate Writing Workshop A 를 통과함으로 이 요건을 충족시킬 수 있습니다.

 

한국뉴욕주립대학교 재학생들은 뉴욕주립대학교 스토니브룩 본교에 가기 이전에 WRT 101 과목을 면제 혹은 반드시 이수를 해야합니다.

 

주요사항:

 

1. AP English/Comp 혹은 English/Lit 3점 이상, 혹은 SAT I Verbal 및 Writing 파트 통합 1,050점 이상, 혹은 ACT English/Writing 부분 24점 이상, 혹은 WRT101와 동등하게 여겨지는 C학점 이상의 대학 영작문 수업으로 첫번째 요건인 WRT101요건을 총족시킬 수 있음.

 

2. 학생들은 스토니브룩에서 해당 WRT 이수 요건을 우선적으로 충족시켜야하며, 영작문 이수 요건을 충족시킬 때까지 ESL 192/ESL 193/WRT 101/WRT 102 의 순차로 영작문 수업을 수강해야 함. SAT Verbal 및 Writing 통합 1,050점 미만, 혹은 ACT English/Writing 부분 24점 미만을 받은 학생의 경우, Writing 배치고사를 통해 적절한 영작문 수업에 배정을 받음.

 

3. WRT102에 상응하다 판단되는 C학점 이상의 작문수업을 이수한 편입생은 이 요건을 충족받았을 것임.

 

4. 만약 학생이 고등학교 재학중에 대학캠퍼스에서 이수한 대학과목이 있는 경우에만 WRT102에 상응하는지 고려될 수 있음.

 

5. 입학을 하는 시점부터, 학생들은 스토니브룩에서 적용되는 교양필수과목(D.E.C.)을 모두 이수해야만 하며, 입학 이후 이 요건을 충족시키기 위하여 제출되는 이전 학점은 Writing 및 Rhetoric 프로그램의 디렉터에서 사전 인증을 받는 경우를 제외한 나머지는 인정되지 않음.

 


한국뉴욕주립대학교에서 제공하는 ESL 과목

 

ESL 192: Intermediate Composition

A course for students who have attained a degree of fluency in speaking English but need additional training in reading and writing skills. Beginning with basic sentence patterns and working toward paragraph development and eventually essays, each student has the opportunity to practice many different varieties of writing. May be repeated but counts only once toward graduation. Writing placement score determines placement in the course. A through C/Unsatisfactory grading only. The Pass/No Credit option may not be used.

Prerequisite: A score of 1 on the writing assessment

3 credits, ABC/U grading

 

ESL 193: Advanced Composition

Advanced training in writing for ESL students who need to concentrate on paragraph and essay development. The course deals with the development of a variety of essay genres, including the personal narrative, summary/response and argumentation/persuasion. Key grammar points are reviewed and are expected to be mastered. May be repeated but counts only once toward graduation. Writing placement score or successful completion of ESL 192 determines placement in the course. A through C/Unsatisfactory grading only. The Pass/No Credit option may not be used.

Prerequisite: A score of 2 on the writing assessment or successful completion of ESL 192

영작문 과목

 

WRT 101: Introductory Writing Workshop

Students in this class are asked to produce frequent short papers to develop fluency and correctness. Students will also be introduced to the basic requirements of academic writing. A through C/U grading only. Students may not use the Pass/No credit option. Not for credit in addition to the discontinued EGC 100. Does not satisfy DEC A requirement for students matriculating before Fall 1999.

Prerequisite: A score of 3 on the writing assessment or successful completion of ESL 193

WRT 102: Intermediate Writing Workshop

(Students will take this course at Stony Brook)

This class emphasizes writing for academic purposes. Students learn strategies for extended writing assignments at the university. Short papers and at least two major essays in a variety of academic genres are required. Students will do extensive revision on multiple drafts in a variety of genres, including a researched argument and will be required to submit a final portfolio that must be judged acceptable by their teacher and an outsider reader. A through C/U grading only. The Pass/No credit option may not be used. Not for credit in addition to the discontinued EGC 101. Placement essay or transfer evaluation. Three credits.

Prerequisite: successful completion of WRT101; or a score of 1050 or higher on the combined SAT verbal and written exams; or a 24 or higher on the combined English and writing portions of the ACT; a score of 3 or higher on the AP English/Comp or English/Lit examination; or a grade of C or higher in a college writing course
