ChoonHo Kim President of SUNYkorea
History Makers.
We Change the World.

I am profoundly honored to be appointed as the second president of SUNY Korea and thrilled to embark on a new journey with the whole SUNY Korea family -students, faculty, staff, alumni and colleagues on our home Stony Brook and FIT campuses- from the beginning of 2020.

I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this transnational higher education institution with more than one thousand students from thirty-six different countries to the next level of success and excellence.

As the first foreign university established in Korea, SUNY Korea has been demonstrating its vision “to become an exemplary higher educational institution” and fostering global leaders who will “open doors to a new era full of possibilities” since its beginning in 2012.

I am endlessly grateful to Honorary President Dr. Myung Oh and President Emeritus Dr. ChoonHo Kim, who is also the first President of SUNY Korea, for their extraordinary leadership to establish SUNY Korea and to build a strong academic foundation for its future. Without their dedication, it would not be possible for SUNY Korea to have its high reputation as a global higher educational institution.

Without their dedication, it would not be possible for SUNY Korea to have its high reputation as a global higher educational institution.

I will continue moving forward on the path they have paved for making great progress and creating a lasting legacy at SUNY Korea in the coming years.

Now we are facing new challenges. If we say SUNY Korea was founded in ‘the era of globalization’, this new challenge we now face is in ‘the era of the 4 th industrial revolution’, which is asking us to go far beyond what we have done and what we have been familiar with. This is likely to encompass more than simply technological change. It will be about an expansion of humanity which we haven’t experienced or even imagined in full.

Entering this new era and facing these new challenges, we will create success in our role as a forerunner just as we have done as a pioneer for the last ten years. I would like to stress the fact that we are now far more well equipped compared to the time when we started this journey. We have our SUNY Central, which is the largest and the most powerful higher education system as a shield, and Stony Brook University and FIT as our home campuses and as a matrix for our education and research.

As President of SUNY Korea, I will work together with students, faculty, staff, alumni and colleagues in our home campuses to make SUNY Korea a leading global higher educational institution in the era of the 4 th industrial revolution. In particular, I will be focusing on devising and implementing effective modes of communication in order to stay transparent and in tune with all of our stakeholders including our regional partners such as the Incheon city government, IFEZ and IGC.

I wish all of you have a wonderful new year and I am very much looking forward to working with you to become history makers in the era of the 4 th industrial revolution.
