Stony Brook University has been ranked No. 45 among all U.S. universities in the QS US University Rankings 2020, placing it in the top 6% nationwide. The University is also ranked as the No. 15 public institution in the U.S. and the No. 1 public university in New York State.
The rankings are based on weighted scores in the categories of Employability, Diversity and Internationalization, Learning Experience and Research.
“This stellar showing highlights Stony Brook’s continued upward trajectory as a premier American public institution,” Interim President Michael A. Bernstein said. “I am especially proud that our diverse and global learning environment is recognized in these rankings.”
Stony Brook’s strong showing is due in part to its high score in the category of Diversity and Internationalization, in which it ranks No. 14 nationally. This category includes the following indicators: gender pay gap, faculty gender diversity, ratio of undergraduates receiving Pell grants, students’ ethnicity, number of Fulbright students and ratio of international students.
Stony Brook is also ranked as the fifth best university in New York State, after Cornell, Columbia, NYU, and University of Rochester.
