September 18, 2019 –  The SUNY Korea Career Center’s first "Career Talk to You" lecture of the fall semester was held on Sept. 18. Dr. Hong Yoon Kim, a data scientist at Samsung Electronics' AI Research Center and a former

intern at NASA, was the invited speaker.

In his lecture Dr. Kim explained what data science is and the future of the field, and emphasized how learning

programming language and completing a graduate degree in applied mathematics helped him build a solid

foundation from which to enter the data science field.

He stressed the benefits of bilingual and biculturalism at work as well, noting how the various cultural

experiences students have at SUNY Korea will be beneficial in their careers.

A Q&A with students was held after the lecture.

Dr. Kim’s talk spurred students to reflect on today's data-driven and globalized world, and the importance of

data science in this environment.

The SUNY Korea Career Center plans to host many speakers throughout the semester as part of the “Career Talk

to You” series.
