Honorary President Dr. Myung Oh joined JSU Book Club, an RC program at SUNY Korea, on Nov. 14 to talk about his book Dream Korea in 30 Years. The special lecture was held at Oh Myung Hall (Academic Building B), which is named after him.

As the students have been reading his book throughout the semester, it was very meaningful for them to meet and talk with its esteemed author.

Dr. Oh, who is one of the pioneers of the information and communications revolution in Korea, offered the students practical advice on how to study effectively, think outside the box, and find a direction in life through his own experience.

“We must make sure our employees are happy. Getting their support and ideas will lead you to great success,” Dr. Oh said. He concluded the lecture by emphasizing that what makes a good leader is open-mindedness and sincere consideration of different ideas, not just technical competence.

Dr. Oh graduated from the Military Academy and majored in electrical engineering at Stony Brook University and Seoul National University. In 1980, at the age of forty, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Science and Technology, as well as the Minister of Communication, Transportation, and Construction, laying the groundwork for the Korean telecommunications revolution. He also led projects on electronic switchboards and nationwide telephone automation, and played a key role in the development of 4MD RAM semiconductors.

Dr. Oh has the title of “University Professor” at Stony Brook University and is Honorary President of SUNY Korea.
