The award-winning technology introduced by Professor Jihoon Ryoo and graduate student Hoyoung Kim in the “Development of Location Tracking Technology in Underground Roads,” advanced into the GPS business with Seoul metropolitan city. The city government plans to start commercialization of the service with SK Telecom after undergoing technical verification in the field, in places such as Namsan Tunnel and Jamsil Regional Transit Center, starting in June.
Last year, Prof. Jihoon Ryoo and Hoyoung Kim made a proposal for GPS signal generation designed to solve GPS shaded areas for social problem-solving. This proposal was presented at an event organized by the Seoul Technology Innovation Center and received a prize in April (reference).
Recently, joint research activities of faculty members and students are actively ongoing in the department of computer science at SUNY Korea. Two research papers concerning computer algorithms and software technology written by CS undergraduate students were accepted at international conferences. In addition to these accomplishments, Professor Dennis Wong has cooperated in a project which developed an unmanned store in Hong Kong, while Professor Amos Omondi published a book about cryptographic algorithms.
