Dear Our Campus Community,
The year 2022 marks the 10th year of SUNY Korea – a moment in which we reflect on our past triumphs and look forward to growing further as a higher education institution.
Great minds and forerunners once dreamed of a mere idea of creating a truly international campus where competitive academic programs of world’s renowned universities are offered. By the work of many, the mere dream started to take shape in late 2000 and became the reality we can see and touch through the long-awaited establishment of SUNY Korea in 2012.
As the first American university established in Korea, SUNY Korea had to navigate through countless challenges to gain foothold with a single vision in mind – fostering leaders who can rise up to challenges of our time – and now, 10 years later, we begin to bear witness to the fruits of the journey.
SUNY Korea’s student body has grown from dozens in 2012 to 1,336 as of Spring 2022, where over 40 countries are represented, across 5 departments from Stony Brook University and 2 departments from Fashion Institute of Technology, and it is set to expand its program offerings with an addition of the Department of Electric and Computer Engineering in Fall 2022. At the moment, over 500 SUNY Korea alumni are located around the globe, each making their own unique impact.
SUNY Korea will have a 10-year celebration week on the 3rd week of June 2022 where the SUNY Korea community – students, faculty, administration, and staff – will come together to celebrate it with officials from the State University of New York, Stony Brook University, Fashion Institute of Technology, Korean government offices, and others joining us throughout the week. The week will be decorated with various events including an academic symposium, a fashion show, the Spring 2022 Commencement, and student events.
It is such a privilege to find ourselves in this unprecedented moment to honor the past, celebrate our present, and envision our future. Please join us and celebrate the year together.
Truly yours,
Arthur H. Lee
President of SUNY Korea
