What made a German with Korean heritage interested in the Korean Architecture and traditional houses? We will understand his passion, insights and knowledge about the special concept behind Hanok Korean traditional Houses.

While hundreds of Tourist stream to Bukcheon - the Northern part of Seoul daily to shoot photos in traditional Korean Dresses " Hanbok" in front of the beautiful "Hanok" Houses.. We should also understand what makes a Korean House so beautiful.. and sustainable.

A guided Tour through Bukcheon will be provided on Saturday June 2nd from 10 am ~ 12pm - free of charge.

Overview - Lecture (Fri 7pm ~ 9pm) Yeongtong Library:

In the lecture the city of Seoul, its history and urban structures and fabric will be at the center of the lecture. The audience will learn what makes Korea's capital unique and why it is as it is today. We will learn how the different historic periods, Joseon Dynasty, colonial period, dictatorship and the democratic time have formed the city. Seoul has much more to offer than meets the eye and with the knowledge provided in this lecture it will be possible to see the city with different eyes and discover its hidden historic assets.

Focusing on Hanok, Korea's traditional architecture, Mr. Taendler will provide basic information as well as give an overview about the current situation and what kind of difficulties and problems the Hanok faces on the one hand and what potential it has and what we can expect for the future on the other hand.

Guided Walking Tour (Sat. June 2nd, 10 am ~ 12pm), meeting at 9:50am at Anguk Station Exit 2:

Since the content will mainly be based on the lecture, it is recommended to participate in the guided walking tour with Mr. Daniel Taendler. The walking lecture will lead us through the Euljiro area with the old electronic market Saewoon Sang-Ga in the center of it. We will learn what kind of historic architectural remnants can still be found here and understand that Seoul has a lot to offer beyond high rise buildings and the royal palaces.
