SKAP 140: SUNY Korea Library Use Policy


General Provisions

Purpose
The purpose of this regulation is to improve the uniformity and efficiency of the library facility by defining the matters related to the operation of the SUNY Korea Library (hereinafter referred to as "the library"), and the use of its materials and facilities.

Mission
The library shall provide resources for academic research and education.

Scope of Jurisdiction
The library's facilities, equipment, and operations are managed by Academic and Faculty Affairs, the Facility Team, Student Affairs, and the IT Services Team.
 


Use of Facilities

Operation Hours and Holidays
The opening hours of the library are specified in the table below. The hours are subject to change due to on-campus construction or events.

  • The Library will be open on Korean National Holidays during the semester, except for Chuseok holidays.
  • If deemed necessary, the library may be opened or closed regardless of Article 4-① with the approval of the
    SUNY Korea President.

Library Access

To access the SUNY Korea Library, Faculty and Staff must first visit the IGC Library and register their ID cards.

Library Card

  • When entering the Library, the SUNY Korea (Student) ID card should be used as a library card. If your card
    does not work, please register your card at the IGC Library.
  • When using library materials and facilities, one should carry the SUNY Korea (Student) ID card and present it when requested by the staff or library support students.
  • The SUNY Korea (Student) ID card shall not be lent to other people. Any person who violates this rule may be restricted from using the library.

Library Service Environment

  • The library shall provide library information and instructions on how to use the library to enhance the convenience of users.
  • The library shall supplement and expand various facilities necessary for the creation of a suitable atmosphere for studying and the improvement of the quality of service.

Seating Guidelines
The library seats can be used after reserving a seat through the kiosk located within the library.

  • Kiosk Location: Near the entrance of the 2nd and 3rd floors

Penalties

  • If you use the study room or reading room without a reservation, you will be prohibited from reserving a library seat for 1 day.
  • If the break time is exceeded, the seat reservation will be canceled, and library access will be prohibited for 1 day.
  • If the group study room is reserved but not used, the group study room will be unavailable to those individuals for 7 days.


Rules of Use

  1. Any person using library materials or facilities shall follow the instructions of the staff and refrain from engaging in the following activities:
    • Damaging or unauthorized exporting of materials or furniture
    • Leaving personal items unattended 
    • Lending their library card or providing their library account to others
    • Drinking in the library (the only exception is water in a secured container)
    • Eating in the library
    • Loud singing or chatting, or any mobile phone usage which produces noise (such as chatting, games, videos, etc.)
    • Smoking in the library
    • Stealing other users’ belongings
    • Using the computers for any purpose other than academic research
    • Attaching unauthorized signs or notices or attaching authorized signs or notices outside of a designated location
    • Distributing or selling printed matter or goods
    • Interfering with other users, engaging in offensive behavior, or threatening the safety of others
    • Behaving in any manner deemed inappropriate for normal library use
    • Animals except service & therapy animals, law enforcement animals, and assistance animals
    • Children aged 14 and under must be accompanied and supervised by an adult (a person 18 years or older)
    • Bring in wheeled and/or motorized vehicles, except wheelchairs
  2. The violators of subparagraph ① may be ordered to leave the library and be reported to the Student Affairs Office.
  3. Serious or continued violations will result in sanctions according to the SUNY Korea Student Conduct Code.
  4. If the cleanliness of the library is not maintained and complaints continue, the library operations may be temporarily suspended.
