SKAP 111: Transfer Credit Policy of SUNY Korea FIT

This policy governs the review and approval of transfer credits for courses taken outside of SUNY Korea by continuing students who are matriculated in SUNY Korea FIT degree programs.

Preamble
SUNY Korea students are primarily subject to the transfer policies of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. They must also comply with additional SUNY Korea transfer policies, including SKAP 121: Online Course Policy of SUNY Korea FIT. Detailed information on FIT transfer policies is available on the FIT website under TRANSFER CREDITS

Eligibility
Students who have completed at least one semester at SUNY Korea FIT after matriculation, and prior to their final semester, are eligible to take courses outside of SUNY Korea, either online or offline and request transfer credit within this period.

Transfer Credits Limit

  • Students may request the transfer of up to six credits (including online, offline, and exam-based credits such as CLEP) during the AAS program. The maximum number of transferable credits refers to those confirmed as equivalent after review by the Registrar at SUNY Korea FIT.
  • Transfer credits from previously attended institutions—including colleges, universities, AP Exams, and other accredited educational organizations—are exempt from the six-credit limit specified in this policy. However, transcripts must be submitted prior to matriculation at SUNY Korea FIT to be eligible for these transfer credits.

Credits Transfer Deadline
If a student takes off-campus courses, the credits must be transferred and reflected on the student’s DegreeWorks page before the end of the student’s final semester. Failure to meet this requirement may result in a delay in graduation.

Requirement and Submission Process

  1.  All courses proposed for transfer credit review must be taught in English.
  2. Students must submit a Course Equivalency Assessment (CEA) Form to the FIT Registrar in the Academic and Faculty Affairs Office at SUNY Korea to facilitate communication with FIT NYC for course equivalency review. Submission instructions will be provided separately (e.g., via the SUNY Korea Academics website).
  3. Each CEA Form must include a complete course syllabus and any relevant supporting materials.
  4. Based on the CEA Form and supporting materials submitted, the course review ensures that the content, learning outcomes, and credit hours align with the SUNY Korea FIT curriculum.
  5. Students must submit the CEA Form and all supporting materials at least four weeks prior to the start of the semester in which they intend to take the off-campus course.
    • For Summer and Winter Sessions, submissions will only be accepted within two weeks after the commencement of the preceding Spring or Fall semester, respectively.
    • The total period during which submissions may be made is limited to the timeframe.
  6. Final approval of transfer credits is granted by the Office of the Registrar at FIT NYC.

Transcripts, Grades, and Graduation Requirements

  • Students are responsible for ensuring that the official final transcripts are sent from the host organization to the office of the Registrar at FIT NYC once the courses are completed. A final grade of “C” or higher is required for each course to be considered for transfer credit.
  • The Office of the Registrar at FIT NYC will conduct the final review and approval of transfer credits. Approved transfer credits are recorded with a grade of “T” and do not affect the student’s GPA.
  • Students must earn at least 30 credits in residence according to FIT NYC standards. Also, they must complete a minimum of 50% of the coursework at FIT for each degree, and 60% of the coursework for minors.
