SKAP 110: Transfer Credit Policy of SUNY Korea SBU
This policy governs the review and approval of transfer credits for courses taken outside of SUNY Korea by continuing students who are matriculated in SUNY Korea SBU degree programs.
Preamble SUNY Korea students are primarily subject to the SBU Transfer Policy and must also comply with the additional SUNY Korea transfer policy.
Eligibility Students who have completed at least one semester after matriculation at SUNY Korea SBU can take courses outside of SUNY Korea and apply for transfer credits.
Transfer Credits Limit SUNY Korea SBU allows a maximum of 12 transfer credits in total during the BS/BE degree program to ensure students graduate with the proper credentials for an SBU degree.
Test credits after matriculation count toward the 12-transfer limit.
During the Summer session, students will be allowed to take 9 credits in a single Summer Session.
During the Winter session, students will be allowed to take a maximum of 4 credits collectively from all approved institutions.
The following courses are not considered transfer courses:
Transfer credits earned from a previous school before matriculation.
Cross-registration courses from George Mason University Korea, the University of Utah Asia Campus, and Ghent University Global Campus.
Transfer credits reviewed by CASA (Committees on Academic Standing and Appeals) for academic reinstatement.
Transfer Course Requirements
All courses proposed for transfer credit review must be taught in English.
Transferred courses must meet the prerequisite requirements of the equivalent courses offered at SBU.
Students must meet with their academic department before registering for a transfer course.
If a transfer course is not listed in the SBU Transfer Equivalency Database, the student must submit the course syllabus and have the course evaluated by the Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs.
Once the course equivalency and transfer eligibility have been confirmed, the student may proceed with course registration.
Upon completion of the course, an official transcript must be sent directly to the Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs.
Petition Students may petition to exceed the total transfer credit limit of 12 only in exceptional circumstances. Such petitions must be submitted to the department and will be subject to rigorous review. Approval is required from both the Department Chair and the Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs at SUNY Korea, and is granted only in rare cases.
